Blonde Hair Care

Everyone knows that blonde hair isn't particularly easy to look after, especially if you're naturally dark.

When I was little, my hair was really fair, but as I got older it turned brown and stayed that way.

I dyed my hair a darker brown through my teenage years as I hated having boring, mousey hair, but when I went to college I decided I wanted to make it a bit lighter.

I started lightening the ends, then the summer before I went to uni I had a full head of highlights.

That winter I got really bored and bleached my full head, cutting my long hair into a bob. It was one of my favourite hairstyles of all time, but an absolute nightmare to keep up to - the condition was dreadful, it kept snapping off, and my roots came through every few weeks in a thick, black line.

After that, I had to dye my hair back dark in order to make it grow and try and get it to be healthy again. I started slowly introducing fine highlights, before leading up to a full head of highlights again.

I now also have my roots smudged out so that I don't have to dye it as frequently, and the blonde looks more natural.

My hair has grown so much in the last year and has become so much healthier, which I'm so grateful for. I've been using Matrix Biolage Keratin Renew Spray after every wash, and sometimes just putting it through my ends before I go out for an extra moisture boost. It's a great product for restoring damaged hair and adding shine while repairing split ends and making hair stronger.

Another difficulty with blonde hair is keeping it a cool, ashy tone. When highlighting darker hair, it's easy for it to go brassy and yellow, and I much prefer my hair to have a cooler, softer tone to it.

To keep up to the colour, I use Fashionista shampoo and conditioner, by Catwalk. (TIGI) It's a purple shampoo for blondes, and is suitable to use every day.  It gets rid of yellow tones in hair while also protecting from heat damage, and adds shine and life to your blonde.

I've also tried silver shampoos from Bleach London and L'Oréal and I can say that they're both great for keeping up with ashy locks, but both are quite dark and can lead to colour build up so may not be suitable for every day use.

Another product I've started using is Fudge 'Tri Blo Toning Spray'. It's a blue tinged heat protection spray that tones hair whilst protecting from damage - what's not to like!

This has left my hair soft, strong and a lovely, silvery blonde.
